Use the Knowledge Centre as a structured reference, with the transaction facts and original authority material alongside it. A guide can organise a question and explain the rule. It should not replace the exact provision, the engagement scope or the professional judgement needed for a particular client.
1. Establish the question and period
Record the taxpayer or entity, activity, transaction and income year or effective date. Separate accounting, income tax, VAT, corporate, employment and regulatory questions. A conclusion under one framework should not silently settle a different framework’s test.
2. Build the source trail
Retain the official document, title, amendment coverage, provision and page used. Read a consolidation with later amendments and preserve earlier versions for historical work. A reachable index establishes where material can be found; it does not verify every claim in an article.
3. Document the working and judgement
Connect facts, evidence, calculation and conclusion. Show assumptions and material exceptions, and make a review item specific enough for another professional to resolve. Reconcile tax adjustments, payment credits and regulatory measures through explanatory schedules.
4. Keep scope and confidentiality clear
Distinguish preparation, audit, review, compilation and other services. Use the professional standards and ethics requirements for the actual role. Restrict client, employee and reporting records appropriately and use anonymised examples in public material.
